Destination Covered: Kathmandu Kyirong Saga Mansarovar Darchen Dolma Pass Yamadwar Dirapuk Zuthulphuk Tibet Lhasa Shigatse
Duration: 17 days / 16 Nights
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra: Lhasa Edition is a meticulously designed 17-day pilgrimage that transcends a typical travel experience. It is a profound spiritual journey designed for those who seek to connect with the divine while traversing the most breathtaking landscapes on the planet. By combining the rich cultural tapestry of Tibet’s capital with the raw, spiritual power of the Himalayas, this yatra offers a comprehensive path to inner peace and physical challenge.
This expedition begins in the sacred valley of Kathmandu, allowing your body to acclimatize while your spirit prepares through visits to ancient temples like Pashupatinath. The transition to the Tibetan plateau is nothing short of legendary—a high-altitude flight that offers a bird’s-eye view of the world’s tallest peaks, landing you in the mystical city of Lhasa.
In Lhasa, you don't just see history; you walk through it. From the towering white and red walls of the Potala Palace to the rhythmic chants echoing through the Jokhang Temple, you are immersed in a world where faith is the heartbeat of daily life. This phase serves as a vital bridge, preparing your mind and body for the higher altitudes of the holy lake and mountain.
The climax of the journey takes place at the "Center of the Universe." You will witness the sun rising over the turquoise expanse of Lake Mansarovar, believed to be the mind of Lord Brahma. The Outer Kora follows—a three-day trek around Mount Kailash that tests your endurance and rewards your devotion. Whether you are touching the sacred rocks at Charan Sparsh or crossing the formidable Dolma La Pass at 5,700 meters, every step is a prayer.

Nestled at the base of the palace, Longwangtan Park awaits you, offering traditional Tibetan cultural experiences and a unique viewpoint of the magnificent Potala Palace from its serene shores. In the afternoon, you will travel to the revered Jokhang Temple, built in the 7th century. We conclude at Barkhor Street, the circuit surrounding the temple, which is a fantastic location for souvenir shopping and observing local life.
Today’s drive is filled with natural beauty. You will stop at the turquoise Yamdrok Lake, see the massive Karola Glacier, and cross the Simila Pass. We reach Shigatse, Tibet's second-largest city, by evening.
We head further west toward Saga. The drive takes you through the vast, open landscapes of the Tibetan heartland, crossing the holy Brahmaputra River. You will start to feel the higher altitude as we move toward the sacred mountains.
A truly special day as we reach the banks of Lake Mansarovar. You will get your first view of Mount Kailash today. We will complete a 90 km vehicle circuit (Parikrama) of the lake, allowing you to find a peaceful spot at the water's edge.
The morning is dedicated to spiritual activities—Puja, meditation, and holy dips at the lake. In the afternoon, we take a short 1-hour drive to Darchen, the base camp located at the foot of Mount Kailash.
10:00 AM – After a short drive, we will reach Tarboche and visit Yama Dwar. This is the starting point for Kora. We will trek to Dirapuk (4860 m) which is a 12 km trek (5-6 hrs). You will visit the North face of Mt. Kailash. Travelers who do not want to trek around (Parikrama) Kailash can go back to Darchen and wait for the rest of the group to arrive from Parikrama.
Note:- If you are physically fit and if the Tibetan Government allows it then we will trek further to do Charan Sparsh (Touch Kailash) on this same day and return back to Dirapuk.
07:00 AM – Trek from Dirapuk to Dolma La Pass and proceed to Zuthulphuk (22 km trek for 8-9 hours trek). The first stage of the trip is a two-hour ascent to Dolma La Pass (5700 m | 18700 ft). The trail brings us past Yamasthal on our way to Shiva-sthal, with each step bringing us closer to the Dolma-La Pass. There are some tea shops before you reach Dolma La Pass where you can have tea and hot refreshments. After Dolma La Pass, the route descends for an hour before straightening out for 2-3 hours till we reach Zuthulphuk. You’ll be able to see Gauri Kunda (The Pond of Goddess Parvati) as well while descending from Dolma la pass.
NOTE::- If you are not doing Parikrama, then you will still be waiting at Darchen.
A gentle 8 km walk brings us to the end of our trek. We meet our vehicle and reunite with the rest of the group in Darchen. From there, we begin our return journey with a drive back to Saga.
Enjoy a long but scenic drive back across the Tibetan plateau. This is a day to relax in the vehicle, look at your photos, and reflect on the successful completion of your Yatra before arriving back in Lhasa.
